While Maine tourmaline is the most well-known gem material mined in the state, the amethyst found here is one of the most beautiful.  This amethyst measures 11 x 9 mm and weighs 3.35 carats.  Most of the mining at Deer Hill, which is where this stone was mined, happened before 1973.  The rough for this stone was mined from 1967 to 1971 by Jim Mann and was cut by Ben Ashley.

The ring is made with sterling silver and has an accent rim of 14K yellow gold around the stone.  The small full-cut accent stones are Maine mined beryl; weighing a total of .05 carats.  The ring was designed by Joryel Vera of Florida.
