Metal Earth Steel Model Kit - Apollo
Made by Metal Earth, the Apollo Lunar Rover and Lunar Module are a great way to learn about the configurations of the Apollo Rover and Lunar Module. Gain dexterity and hone your skills while building these model replicas of the fascinating Apollo machines that changed the course of history. Designed for ages 14+ and no glue required, although kits recommend using tweezers for bending or twisting connection tabs. Comes in two versions:
Apollo Lunar Module: This spaecraft consisted of two parts that was used to carry a crew of two from lunar orbit to the surface of the moon and back. The descent stage served as the launch pad for the ascent stage, and housed the landing gear, engines, and fuel needed for landing. Six such crafts successfully landed on the Moon between 1969 and 1972. *Make sure to visit the Apollo exhibit in the Discovery Gallery at the Maine Mineral and Gem Museum, which includes an original Lunar Module prototype!
Apollo Lunar Rover: Affectionately known as the Moon Buggy, the Rover was used during the last three missions of the American Apollo program between 1971 and 1972. Powered by only two silver-oxide batteries, the Apollo 17 was able to drive for over 22 miles on the moon's surface!
