Watermelon Tourmaline Crystal Slice Pendant

This is a complete crystal slice (note the green rind that goes all around the outside of the pink) that measures just about 3/4" in diameter.  The total length from the top to the bottom is around 1".  Note the unique color zoning in the center of the slice! The slice weighs 17.9 carats and is set in a simple frame of 14KT yellow gold.  Setting was handmade by jeweler Scott Lawrence.

The crystal this slice was a part of was mined during The Big Find at the Dunton Quarry from 1972-1974 by the Plumbago Mining Corporation.  One ton of tourmaline was mined over this two year period!
