Meteorites from Mars and the Moon are among the rarest substances on
Earth. Here at the MMGM, we strive to understand – and then share - what
these rocks from space can teach us about our fascinating neighbors in the
sky, our home planet, and the extraordinary origins of our solar system.
The Martian meteorite Gadamis 001 was delivered to Earth after an asteroid
impact on Mars, explosively ejecting material off of the red planet’s surface
and traveling through outer space until finally crossing Earth’s orbit and
descending to our planet. Gadamis 001 was discovered in Libya in 2019. The
picture surrounding the specimen is sourced from NASA, and each specimen
is authenticated.
