From the Gran Chaco region of north-central Argentina, near Paraguay, comes material from the Campo del Cielo (Field of Heaven) meteorite field. Being the largest meteorite find in history, the Campo del Cielo boasts a total excavated weight exceeding 100 tonnes (over 220,000lbs!) of meteorite material, with the largest single piece, named Gancedo, weighing 30.8 tonnes (~68,000lbs). First discovered by Spanish explorers in 1576, the Campo del Cielo meteorite field is known the world over for producing heavy iron meteorites (1AB-MG) with a distinct octahedron structure.

Display boxes are 1" cubes.
