Heritage Mining Map

Created as part of MMGM’s Stones & Stories: Sharing Maine’s Legacy Through Interpretive Storytelling initiative, this hand-illustrated rendering weaves together Western Maine’s most significant geological sites, mining history, landscapes, and cultural landmarks into a single visual narrative. From early sketches to detailed brushwork, this video offers a look at the creative process behind the map and the inspiration drawn from Maine’s rich geological heritage.

Stones & Stories is a social media series featuring bite-sized videos from the Maine Mineral & Gem Museum in Bethel. Each short connects Maine’s unique geology and rich mining history with the people, places, and discoveries shaping our world today.
